A Classic Grand Tour Souvenir fine shell cameo necklace backed in agate.

This original necklace is from the Georgian period circa 1820.

 

The wonderful piece has the original festooned high carat double chains, joining classical scenes of Vulcan, Cupid and Venus. These alternate with smaller animal scenes.

The necklace has fourteen finely carved cameos in total, including the original clasp depicting a leaping panther!

The main scene depicts Vulcan with Venus forging arrows for Cupid.

The other scenes include:

Cupid with a lyre

Cupid playing a musical instrument

Venus and the eagle - Zeus in the guise of and eagle

Venus with a dog which is a sign of fidelity.

Two swans

Two antelopes

Two griffins

 

The carvings are wonderfully fine and all original

It’s super rare to get cameos backed in agate, which adds to the piece by creating a warm blush tone .

It’s also rare to have the alternating animal miniatures between the classical scenes

Bracelets & Bangles:

How your bracelet fits is a personal preference.
To check your preferred size, wrap a tape measure loosely around your wrist to the tightness you would like your bracelet to fit.
From the end of the tape measure to the point where it crosses the tape is your desired bracelet length.
Please compare this to the measurements specified on each of our bracelet product pages.
Note, some bracelets are adjustable – this will be mentioned in the description.
Note, if a bangle does not have an opening, you must select one that will pass over your fist.

The measurement will be in cm and inches.
We recommend you place a tape around your neck to see where the chain will sit.

JEWELLERY CARE

Antique Jewellery should be taken care of during wear.

Cleaning and repairs should be carried out by an antique jewellery specialist.

We recommend removing pieces of jewellery before washing hands or showering, as water can damage the antique settings.

Some pieces are not recommended for everyday wear

The Old Cut guarantees the piece up until the new customer receives the item.

Any stones that are lost or damaged during wear are not covered by The Old Cut. These will be charged for replacement, we can of course help find a suitable jeweller to support repairs.
