A gorgeous Victorian scarab beetle ring!

The ring has a wonderfully preserved Victorian scarab beetle set in a 9ct gold mount with a rope border, and a 9ct gold forked shank.

The beetle has a fabulous natural bright green luminescent shell, which is in great condition.

The gold setting of the ring is closed back which protects the underside of the beetle and makes the ring very comfortable to wear.

Hallmarked for 9ct gold , and has a partially legible makers mark.

The trend of wearing real bug jewellery first became popular in the Victorian period.

People were fascinated with the new discoveries of foreign lands, exotic animals and bugs during this time.

As urbanisation grew, the Victorians become more detached from nature, so using bugs and animals as adornment was a way to bring them a little closer to nature again!

A super cool, super weird bug ring!

Scarab beetle and 9ct gold

CONDITION

Good - Beetle is in very good condition.

There are some marks and scratches on the gold on the back of the mount.

Gold setting is wavy, but beetle is secure

There is a slight rattle to the ring, probably loose debris under the beetle, but not recommended to unset the beetle as this can cause damage. Does not take away from the beauty of the ring and is still in great condition considering its over 100 years old.

Not recommended for every day wear due to the delicate nature of the of the taxidermy

Bracelets & Bangles:

How your bracelet fits is a personal preference.
To check your preferred size, wrap a tape measure loosely around your wrist to the tightness you would like your bracelet to fit.
From the end of the tape measure to the point where it crosses the tape is your desired bracelet length.
Please compare this to the measurements specified on each of our bracelet product pages.
Note, some bracelets are adjustable – this will be mentioned in the description.
Note, if a bangle does not have an opening, you must select one that will pass over your fist.

Necklaces

All The Old Cut chains and necklaces have the total length detailed in the description.
The measurement will be in cm and inches.
We recommend you place a tape around your neck to see where the chain will sit.
Below is a basic guide to show some popular lengths – note, everyone’s neck is different, so this is just a basic guide.
JEWELLERY CARE

Antique Jewellery should be taken care of during wear.

Cleaning and repairs should be carried out by an antique jewellery specialist.

We recommend removing pieces of jewellery before washing hands or showering, as water can damage the antique settings.

Some pieces are not recommended for everyday wear

The Old Cut guarantees the piece up until the new customer receives the item.

Any stones that are lost or damaged during wear are not covered by The Old Cut. These will be charged for replacement, we can of course help find a suitable jeweller to support repairs.
