A French Provençal double sided pendant circa 1840.
The pendant is made of glass with enamel, gold and reverse painting to create the design.
One side has painted flowers with a red and gold foliage border,
The other side has the red and gold foliage design over the entire pendant - it catches the light wonderfully due to the gold and the red metallic finish.
The pendant is set in a high carat gold frame.
There is an area of damage on the side with the flowers, there is an internal chip on the glass panel, but it can’t be felt from the outside.
These medallions were popular in Digne-les-Bains, and Antibes in the South of France, during the 18th century.
They feature in the book ‘Traditional French Jewellery’ by Micheal C.W. Fieggen.
A wonderful piece of history
Diameter approx: 2.2cm
