A large oval early Victorian ‘Tassie’ glass intaglio depicting an eagle holding a wreath.
The eagle was the personification of Zeus, the leader of all gods! The laurel wreath was given as a prize to the victorious.
This is a pendant that evokes a strong sentiment, either for success or to give the wearer strength.
The very pale lilac intaglio has been set in a very simple 9ct gold setting, to allow the story of the piece to take centre stage.
Size approx: 1.7cm x 2.8cm (incl bail) Depth 0.6cm
There are a few chips at the edge of the stone, see pics however this piece remains handsome even with this wear, and deserves to be worn for years to come.
A Tassie is a paste or glass copy of a cameo or intaglio.
Scottish gem engraver James Tassie created replicas of ancient engraved agates and gemstones and developed a formula for an opaque glass that could replicate various colors and patterns.
